Of : Statistical Analysis of an Archeological Find

چکیده
1. Introduction. The paper by Feuerverger analyses interesting data on the inscriptions found on the ossuaries of a burial tomb unearthed in Jerusalem in 1980. A statistical analysis is made of the plausibility that the names inscribed on the ossuaries match those of the New Testament (NT) figures. The evidence on which the analysis is based is the distribution of names in the era when the tomb was dated. The results are based on assumptions which may drive some of the results. Some questions immediately come to mind.

Statistical Analysis of an Archeological Find
In 1980, a burial tomb was unearthed in Jerusalem containing ossuaries (limestone coffins) bearing such inscriptions as Yeshua son of Yehosef, Marya, Yoseh—names which match those of New Testament (NT) figures, but were otherwise in common use. This paper discusses certain statistical aspects of authenticating or repudiating links between this find and the NT family. The available data are laid...

I thank all the discussants for their many critiques and comments, and for their considerable efforts. Many of the points raised are ones with which I (at least in part) agree. It therefore seems easiest to first deal with a number of points with which I don’t agree. First, Fuchs states (and Bentley appears to assume) that my analysis is documented in a book and in a movie, neither of which I h...
متن کاملAn Efficient Economic-Statistical Design of Simple Linear Profiles Using a Hybrid Approach of Data Envelopment Analysis, Taguchi Loss Function, and MOPSO
Statistically constrained economic design for profiles usually refers to the selection of some parameters such as the sample size, sampling interval, smoothing constant, and control limit for minimizing the total implementation cost while the designed profiles demonstrate a proper statistical performance. In this paper, the Lorenzen-Vance function is first used to model the implementation...
متن کاملQUICKSELECT Revisited
We give an overview of the running time analysis of the random divide-and-conquer algorithm FIND or QUICKSELECT. The results concern moments, distribution of FIND’s running time, the limiting distribution, a stochastic bound and the key: a stochastic fixed point equation.

Ground penetrating radar (GPR) method is a non-destructive geophysical method that is used to detect subsurface heterogeneities and also recognition of various shallow targets. In present research, forward and inverse modeling of GPR data applied for archeological study has been made. The study area is Tappeh Hissar, Damghan, in which GPR data along several survey lines have been acquired using...
